Japanese dreams

by Yome NetSan 17. June 2010

I've been in Japan last year for a trip around traditions and video games, organized by a french retro games book and magazine editor : Pix'n Love. I've been to Kyōto, Osaka and Tōkyō. It was a defining trip for me. I loved everything there : the weather, the mood, the people, the streets, the temples...
My only regret is that I haven't met too much locals and I definitely want to go back there one day.

10 years ago, Phish was coming back from a 7 shows tour in Japan. It was the last time they played outside of the American continent. Several trip reports and journals give us a glimpse of what is to see Phish in Japan, and after reading them I guess I'd prefer Phish to announce a tour over there than in Europe. Those articles remind me of the feelings I got in april 2009 when I was wandering the streets of Ikebukuro and Shinjuku by myself.
If a new tour in Japan would happen, nothing in the world could prevent me to make the trip. Yes, I know it's almost what I said for the US summer tour this year...

NYE 2009 in Miami on miniSD

by Yome NetSan 2. February 2010

I received yesterday the 4 Miami shows in miniSD USB Slots, like the Festival 8. I ordered them from livephish.com and they arrived in 10 days, so still quicker than Dry Goods.

/image.axd?picture=/2010/2/MiamiMiniSD/mini/Miami miniSD.jpg

I still have to take pictures of my Joy Box but I'm quite busy with a baby to take care of and a new game system to play with.
Yes, I finally bought a Xbox 360 to complete my video game collection. Yes, the one I told I wouldn't buy in the first place... I'm glade I only pay 29€ for it but I bought some games too...

Despite all of that money spent, I wonder if I wouldn't go to the USA this summer to finally see Phish. If Phish doesn't come to you, come to them !

Still waiting (part 5)

by Yome NetSan 19. January 2010

More good news !

I received a shipping email saying that my order has been re-shipped by DHL. Un fortunatly, I can't find the tracking number...
I also got a refund for the shipping fees I paid 5 months ago. So things are taking a better shape thanks to the help of the merch account manager.
It should be arriving quicly with DHL so I'll update when I have news.

Mainwhile, I ordered through livephish.com the full Miami NYE Run as miniSD USB slots like the Festival 8 ones. We'll see which order comes first ;)

Nevertheless, he didn't answer me about the exensive shipping rates so I wrote this last message.

Hi,

First of all, I'd like to apologize for writing you again and thank you very mush for your help in my issue.

I received the refund for the shipping fee and the following email stating that my order has been shipping with DHL.

Unfortunatly, I can't find the tracking number for DHL...
I tried to use the number MIS20106167 in the DHL website but it don't work (as I expected, it's the Dry Goods, order number but who knows...) and this shippment doesn't appear in my Dry Goods account.

Just a quick answer about the shipping rates. I understand that the Joy box is heavy so the shipping rates are expensive, but here are other examples :
Joy Box ($99.00), standard shipping to France : $48.19
Joy CD ($9.99), standard shipping to France : $15.21 (!!!)
Stealing Time T-shirt XL ($19.00), standard shipping to France : $16.21
Festival 8 playing cards ($9.99), standard shipping to France : $28.84 (!!!)
Festival 8 miniSD ($62.00) standard shipping to France : $14.71
Live in Vegas DVD ($17.00), standard shipping to France : $15.21

I made some comparaison with Amazon.com (shipping from the USA)
Joy Box ($91.99), standard shipping to France : $12.48
Joy CD ($11.99), standard shipping to France : $6.48
Live in Vegas DVD ($22.49), standard shipping to France : $6.48

I also order last week a set of Rock Band instruments for the PS3 game from Amazon.de (Germany). It contains a guitar a drum kit and a microphone. Even if it's shipped from inside of Europe, the box is much bigger and heavier than the Jox Box. Shipping was only 8,42 euros ($12.11) !

I also found 2 old invoices from Dry Goods and you can see the difference here : http://www.bouncingaroundeuroom.eu/post/2009/12/23/It-was-the-good-time.aspx

With those easy examples, could you please explain me how those rates are calculated ? Don't you think that they are ridiculusly expensive ? Come on, $15.11 for shipping a plain $9.99 CD in an enveloppe...

Thank you again for your patience.

What's up ?

by Yome NetSan 25. November 2009

Nothing.

No new news about a european tour although some website are spreding the august rumors only this week.

I'm weak so I finaly bought things I saved money from :

  • Gravity Crash, PS3 downloadable game (7€)
  • Braid, PS3 downloadable game (10€)
  • The Legend of Zelda, Ocarina of Time mangas (2x 7,50€ saved each month)

I received an answer for my Joy box that doesn't make me laugh.

I'm listening to the Fall tour each day and I'm loving it althought i'd like more variety in setlist. I'm sick of Chalkdust Torture, You enjoy myself and Down with Disease.

Saving money ?

by Yome NetSan 10. November 2009

New things I won't (or shouldn't) buy :

  • New Super Mario Bros Wii (50€)
  • The Legend of Zelda - Spirit Tracks (Nintendo DS - 40€)
  • Queen Pack (Rock Band DLC - 12€)
  • Braid (PS3 Game - 15€)

Things I told I wouldn't buy but ended bought :

  • Histoire de Nintendo 2
  • Cahier du Jeu Vidéo #2 Le Football
  • A new Jack Skellington mug, DisneyLand (10€)

So it's 117€ saved and 43€ spent.

Live ones

by Yome NetSan 28. September 2009

I discovered Phish live with the bonus tracks from Junta. They where cool and funny (Icculus !!) or barly listenable (Union Federal). Anyway, when I found A Live One in the music store of the Pont de la Machine in Geneva (unfortunatly closed now), I made my parents buy it to me for Christmas without a question !

Of course, it was a life-changing experience.

I got Slip Stitch and Pass and Hampton Comes Alive from the same store in a span of maybe 2 years.

I remember listening to A Live One in front of my computer with my brother playing Final Fantasy VII by my side. Taken by the music, I used to "play the keyboard" and getting my brother upset.
I first listened to Slip Stitch and Pass in the train from Geneva to Valence, right after buying it with my birthday money. It stayed in my player for several month.
Hampton Comes Alive was also a really great experience. I listened to it a lot while playing Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 on my computer.

I bought the other boxset several years later, when they have been respectively released. Each time I could, I pre-ordered the release to grab the bonus CD that came with it. The Left Nuts CD was given with the Walnut Creek DVD.

As a side note, I must admit that I had some let down with some of the releases. While the packaging used to bee very cool (Hampton Comes Alive especially), the recent ones are very cheap-looking (Vegas 96 or At the Roxy). But more important, the sound quality is really bad in At the Roxy. The voices have a reverb effect that too annoying and just ruins the vibe ! Too bad as I was really waiting for this multi-show release.

Nevertheless, I have found memories of listening to it while making levels in Little Big Planet on my PS3. By the way, I have a project for several month to do some Phish-related levels. I could even mix that with a contest to make you win some rare Phish-related CDs, who knows...

Money saving...

by Yome NetSan 15. September 2009

It's a good thing I started this little virtual money bank for a hypotetical Phish Europe Tour. It helps me realize the amount of money I spend avery month in music, games and stuffs...

So here are news things I won't buy until I see Phish live :

I also realize that I often buy the same things twice for collector purpose (P'nL 9, wipEout HD or Metroid Prime Trilogy)...
I'm glade I subscribed to Pix'N Love Mook and IG Magazine before I made the decision to stop buying.

Another 50€ saved

by Yome NetSan 2. September 2009

OK I add to the moneybox :

  • Uncharted 2, PS3 Game

What I won't buy for Phish

by Yome NetSan 30. August 2009

L'Histoire de Nintendo #2 Les Game & Watch I'm a rather compulsive buyer, a collector and I have a whole bunch of passions.
That's a pretty expensive mix....

So if I want to go on Phish tour, I have to save money. Here is a list of things I'd have bought that I won't (at least in the near future) :

So that's a total of 320,48€ saved for my Phish tour !
Of course it's far from enough to afford the flights, trains, hotels, beers and of course tickets for a full european tour but it's a good start.
