Summer tour

by Yome NetSan 17. March 2010

Now that the summer tour 2010 has been announced, I have until march 26th (ten days !) to decide if I can go and register for tickets.
First leg is a no go because of the dates. I like the idea of traveling the whole USA from West to East in August. It should be a wild ride.

The main problem is that I have another projet that will interfere : we are looking for a house to buy. Money will be the issue.

Phish NYE Miami Tour - Jan 1st (return to home)

by Holger 2. January 2010

The alarm clock rang 7.15 after 4,5h of sleep. Much too short for my taste. I felt every beer and irish whiskey that Justin was carrying around as usual. Unfortunately staying in bed was no option as we had to catch a flight from Miami to Philly.

The breakfast room was empty and so were the streets when we drove to the airport and returned to car at the Alamo station. The Jeep patriot was 175 EUR a week incl premium insurance package and one tank of gas! A standard intermediate car would have been 150 EUR so I can only recommend to pay the extra 3-4 EUR per day and enjoy the cool american style SUV driving. "I want my SUV" (was that Mark Knopfler singing in "Money for nothing"?).

At the airport we had to find out that our flight was delayes over a hour. We have two hours in Philly so we should still be able to make the connection flight to Frankfurt. The good thing was that they had free Wi-Fi at the US Airways gate so I could upload last night's pictures to Flickr where Yome is grabbing them to put them up here. The livephish.com downloads of all 4 nights are already on my Blackberry and ready to be explored in depth over the next couple of hours.

When we entered the plane I discovered soul singer John Legends sitting in the first class. Prominent travel mate I would say ;) The flight itself was horrible. Bumpy turbulences for 2 hours. My stomach was spinning in circles - the beers an whiskeys, you remember?

Philly to Frankfurt was on time. Nothing exciting on the 8h flight but I got a beer for free (instead of 7 USD) because a salad bowl felt off the wagon of the stewardess when she was passing by and landed on my lap. Frankfurt to Berlin (usually a 50min flight) was also on time but couldn't land in Berlin because the airport was shut down for about 60-90min due to heavy snow fall. Once on the ground we couldn't get a parking position as the other planes couldn't start during the closing period. It took ages until we finally had the bags, passed customs (no officer on duty at all) and jumped into a cab that drove us to our flat. I hardly remember so much snow in Berlin. What a contrast?! +28°C sun and beach to -10°C snow and concrete. We have 2 days left to fully recover before Natalie and me both go back to work on Monday January 4th. My head is full of great memories and the trip and experience was definitely worth every Euro and minute of traveling. Would do it again without thinking twice! Take care all of you and happy new year again to the whole Phish community and sites which help us to connect, share, publish, etc. (phish.com, livephish, drygoods, fromtheroad,  phishthoughts, bouncingaroundeuroom.eu, thisweekonlot.com, jambands.com, phish.net, phantasytour, glidemagazine, relix,  archive.org, twitter, facebook, last.fm, youtube, flickr and many more).

So...

by Yome NetSan 2. January 2010

According to Trey (who is after all a pretty good source), they won't be Phish shows until summer 2010. Or did he meant no US shows until summer ?

That with the fact that the european rumors dates were PT home-made, so completly bull shit, I guess we won't have a European tour soon...

I don't think I'll wait any furthur to see Phish. I don't want to be like in 2004 and realize I won't see them at all. I'd rather do a full European tour than 3 or 4 dates in the US but I rather go to any Phish show rather none at all.

See you this summer ?

Those guys are C.R.A.Z.Y !!!

While waiting for Holger's full report and pictures, here is a desciption of maybe the greatest New Year's Eve gag by Phish.

/image.axd?picture=/2009/12/2009-12-31/mini/Introducing Sara.jpg

Toward the end of "Party Time" the big disco ball hanging above Trey and Mike begins to lower toward the stage, Fish begins the countdown from 10-1, at midnight the balloons and confetti drop, we get the Auld Lang Syne > Down With Disease and then Fish walks toward the disco ball, opens it, and climbs inside. During this a giant cartoon-like circus canon rolls toward the front of the stage, and an enormous net drops from the rafters with a large illuminated "X" in the middle of it. Trey and Mike try to get Fish out of the disco ball, but can't, so they slide it over to the canon and load it in.

The cannon goes off and there is an explosion in the rafters. The disco ball "misses" the net and a large hole appears to the right of it, like the ball went through the roof of the building, debris hanging down. A helicopter sound them roars through the PA and a searchlight begins to shine from the "hole" all around the floor. Page, Mike and Trey have a conference at center stage, then Trey asks if anyone knows how to play the drums, assuming Fish is dead. They walk around the stage peering into the crowd, following a spotlight, and wind up at the back of the stage, Page side, pointing to a girl (an actress).

/image.axd?picture=/2009/12/2009-12-31/mini/Landing point.jpg She climbs down a ladder that was set up in front of her section, and goes to come up onstage, passing through a room behind the stage that was surrounded by black curtains. Fish then comes out the other end, wearing an identical dress to the crowd girl, a black wig, and fake boobs. He climbs to the drum kit, and Trey asks her what her favorite song is. Fish pretends to talk into his mic but a real girls voice comes out of the PA, she says Fluffhead. They begin and Fish pretends to be not so good at drums during the intro, then catches up and away we went into Fluffhead. At the end of the set, the original girl and Fish trade spots behind Trey and Mike's speakers, with Fish now hiding, crouched down. The girl, Page, Trey and Mike take their bows center stage, then walk off. Fishman crawls off stage after them, in the dark. End of set.

HAPPY NEW YEAR PHANS !

Hope 2010 will bring us more Phish and who knows... maybe in Europe !

Let me introduce myself

by Holger 10. December 2009

Yome was so kind to let me blog on his site.

Let me introduce myself shortly before I start to post stories about my Phish travels and experiences. My name is Holger and I am a German Phish phan who lives in Berlin since 2003.

My sister was hosting a kid from Massechusetts as part of a youth exchange back in the mid 90s. He had some Phish records in his CD collection incl. “Hoist” and “A Live One” as far as I remember. I was interested but not blown away immediately to admit. 1-2 years later I was reading the German music magazine “Musicexpress” and my attention was caught by the record of the month article – “Billy Breathes”. I almost forgot about Phish since I first heard them but I gave them a second chance. The album was gorgeous.

Only a couple of month later I saw that they play a show in Munich which was about 150 miles away from my parent’s house. I decided to drive down with a friend. The show changed my life. In the same summer they played only 60 miles away from my parents home in Nuremberg. I bought tickets for me and my friends.Later my sister and me also won 2 tickets in a competition by our local news paper because we were the only people who took part. So we brought two more friends. The show was amazing. Only one year later another Europe tour was announced. This time Germany was left out but Prague was only 130 miles away. This was my best show so far. Unfortunately we did not stay overnight – big mistake because it was the last time they came to Europe since then. Who could foresee this?

In 1999 I was very close to book a trip to Big Cypress after I got mailing with the announcement but in December ’99 I felt in love with my girlfriend so I didn’t want to leave her alone over our first NYE. Years went by and as a student I had absolutely no money to follow Phish in the US while Europe was constantly left out of their touring plans (maybe due to the increasing drug issues of Trey which could easily cause trouble if you travel accross different countries). In 2002 I got my first real job and in 2003 my girlfriend and me were flying to the gigs in East Rutherford (with special guest B.B.King) and Worcester and also to Miami for 2 out of 4 shows of the NYE run. In 2004 we attended 2 of the Las Vegas shows. We never did this for Phish alone but always planned a road trip around it with classic sight-seeing stuff. I had some of the best times of my life on these travels.

When Phish broke up I was shocked and very sad. Once the first reunion rumors came up my fanatism was back on track. I tried hard to get tickets for Hampton through the lottery and on Livenation but failed. I retried for the summer tour and had tickets in the basket but the site crashed several times. Don’t ask me how but as I wanted to see Phish again so badly I somehow manged to get tickets for Deer Creek / Noblesville and both Alpine Valley shows. The trip was only 4 days – fly in, fly out (Berlin-Amsterdam-Detroit-Chicaco + drive to Indianapolis). I was all alone and came just to see Phish. Crazy? Life saving! The shows and people I met on the trip ("Hi" to Matt & Justin!) were worth every Euro and Dollar. People around me thought this could heal my hunger but the complete opposite was the case. A total relapse: I am more addicted than ever. “Joy” is a great album and tomorrow morning I will drive to customs to finally get my box set.

In a little more then 2 weeks my girlfriend (still the same after 10 years of tolerating my passion) and me will fly to Miami to see all 4 shows of the NYE run 2009. We got lower section tickets on ticketmaster (I might tell you the whole drama of buying them in a different post) so I have no doubt that the shows will be mind blowing. I plan to blog about the trip to keep you updated. We will see what 2010 and the future brings for us Phish phans - hopefully some Europe shows after then 12 years of abstinence…

5 months

by Yome NetSan 9. December 2009

If these rumors are true, Phish should play there first gig in Europe since 1998 in just 5 months.

Unfortunalty, it seems unlikely they would announce such a tour this late, unless they really don't want US fans to jump the ocean to follow them.

I do hope they'll tour in Europe but the more time pass, the more I doubt it'll happens soon...

Rumors again

by Yome NetSan 30. November 2009

Ok so the "source" may be as shit as good but anyway. The link is again PT (http://www.phantasytour.com/phish/boards_thread.cgi?threadID=2119093) and different sounds can be heard.

The first post is about no Spring tour in Europe. Only a Trey solo in february then a Phish summer tour in the US.
A page furthur, someone else says that his source has confirmed the Europe spring tour and that it will be announed between the 5th december and Miami (when the band isn't on tour). But this time, the dates would be mid-March through early April to match the spring break so that members family could come too.
Another guy even wrote from-his-mind dates for a tour that would end in Dubaï on April 1st !

I'm also sad to read some things like "I hope they won't spoil a tour in Europe" or "I hope it isn't true because I can't afford the trip to Europe"... Please think about the few european fans who can't afford a trip to the US to see their favorite band :(

The fun here is that I could make a new tread and tell that I have a inside source in several tour management in Europe and give bull shit dates. I'm pretty sure if I write the stuf well enough it would make the round over the Internet in less than a day !
This to say that these are only rumors and I'll book flights and hotels only when the dates are on Phish.com.

My only request is to avoid a Europe tour between 21th and 31th April 2010 because I'll be in Morocco...

DMB in Europe, hint for a Phish tour ?

by Yome NetSan 20. October 2009

Although some phishheads keep saying that the Dave Matthews Band isn't a jam band and can't be compared to Phish, I'm a little interrested in the recent announcement of a European 2010 tour.

The main reason for my interrest is that both Phish and DMB are in the same management company, Red Light Management. While I'm not really sure the management company and the ticket selling are related, it's a fact that the bands also shared the same TicketMaster ticket selling system.

I will sure take a look at the ticket selling process with DMB to prepare for a hypothetic Phish tour. A big difference already is that DMB has a paying fan club (The Warehouse) where fans can purchase tickets before their public release. Phish doesn't have such a private selling website. I will also check if the tickets will be available through regular european markets.

I can see that there is a 4 mounths gap between the anouncement (20th oct. 2009) and the first show (13th feb. 2010). If the rumors are true, we can expect an announcement for a Phish European tour by december 2009. We can only wait...

-------------------------------------

On a side european note, I received a nice mail from a German based jam band radio show called Stash. Recent shows can be downloads as mp3 file and showcase bands like Phish, Grateful Dead or Cosmic Fingers.
Take listen at stash-radio.de and myspace.com/stash_radio !

How much would it cost ?

by Yome NetSan 21. September 2009

I spoke about my money saving several times but on the other hand, I have to plan how much would it cost to attend all 10 rumored shows over a course of 13 days.

I won't count the travels for now.

  • So 10 tickets : 10 x 30€ (average price for a not-so-famous-in-Europe band) = 300€
  • Food for 13 days : 13 x 20€ = 260 €
  • Hostel or somewhere to sleep for 13 nights (even if I might rest in my brother's in Paris or have a home break in Lyon between Barcelona and Paris) :
    13 x 50€ = 650 €
  • Souvenir, T-shirts, posters, memorabilia and omiyage :
    10 x 20 € = 200€
I'm in a in 1410€ trip without actually going to the shows... I better have to save, save, SAVE !

As a side note, Mr. Miner put 2 greats European '97 shows this weekend in his PhishThoughts.com.
