[1] Debut.
This performance included costumed dancers, theatrics that included people being hoisted by cables, artists displaying various props (including Mike Gordon placing cactus props on stage), and innovative lighting that featured large fluorescent tubes. The second set was a looser jam session and included guest appearances from Dave Grippo on saxophones, James Harvey on trombone, Bobby Hackney on vocals, and Fish on drums. This show marked the debut of First Tube, Sand, Mozambique, and Last Tube. While not billed as a Trey Anastasio performance, with Russ and Tony it represents the public debut of the core TAB touring ensemble.

The work of Chris Kuroda

by Yome NetSan 9. December 2014

Here are two videos showcasing the awesome work of Chris Kuroda, Phish's lighting designer. Of course, full credits goes to the band, Chris and the original tapers.

Phish Lighting : A look at the Pre-visualization of a song

The first one aired at setbreak, during the November 2nd webcast. I'm very surprised it hadn't surfaced before tonight like the 11/1 setbreak video about the relation of Ben & Jerry's and the Whaterwheel Foundation.

The second one is a simple picture-in-picture I made from a video of Chris Kuroda at work and a view of the stage. It was during Tweezer Reprise at Chula Vista this fall (10/25/14).

This contest is open to european residents only.

All new 6-CD box set featuring two complete live shows, recorded July 30, 1997 and July 20, 1998 at Ventura County Fairgrounds in Ventura, California, a general admission dirt racetrack between the Pacific Coast Highway and Surfers Point Park. Bits of the each show's Soundchecks are included at the end of both shows.

The new box set was fully remixed from the band's multitrack masters and mastered for release. July 30, 1997 was Phish's first Ventura stop since Trey learned to surf nearby in 1993. The show featured a number of must-hear performances including a bass-driven, syncopated "Wolfman's Brother" > "Chalk Dust Torture", a deep and spacey "Stash" and "Character Zero" in Set I. A "Free" > "David Bowie" > "Cities" > "David Bowie" combination dominated the show's second half with some of the summer's biggest jams.

On July 20, 1998 Phish again encountered Ventura's breezy oceanside. Ventura '98 was characterized by some new songs and some bustouts. The first set included a "Bathtub Gin" opener, a new arrangement of "Water In The Sky", the swinging funk of "The Moma Dance" and a "Split Open And Melt" Set I closer. Set II exploded with a bass-and-drums-fueled "Drowned" > "Makisupa Policeman" pairing that utilized Page's synth stylings to seamlessly blend rock and reggae. "Maze" led to a perfectly placed "Sea And Sand".

[Giveaway Results] Star Lake 98 DVD

by Yome NetSan 7. December 2012

Last week, I launch a simple contest to win 2 Phish dvd Star Lake 98.

The answer to the question was quite simple : The summer tour 98 was nicknammed "Summer of covers" because the band played a brand new and unique cover each night.

You were 4 to post the correct answer in the comments here. 2 more dvd were given on my french website Gamusik with the exact same question but there was no answer at all ! So instead of choosing 2 winners among the 4 who entered here, I declare everyone's a winner ! So Robert, Dan, Maui and Marko, you'll get an email from me soon.

Meanwhile, I watched the concert last sunday and it was a pleasure to seen my 3 years old son dancing to the music ! But I must admit he was better impressed by the cover art of the boxset. He thought the bridges was for trains and he tried to put the disc in the player on his own... The disc ended stuck really deep inside the player and I had to open it completely to get it back ! Hopefully the dvd wasn't broken and he really enjoyed the menu with the cars on the bridges !

Oh yeah, the show is great with a 35 minutes Runaway Jim and a marvelous Reba ! The video quality is better than you would expect from a VHS source and it's really band focused with very few full stage view.

I hope you winners will enjoy this dvd !

The winner will be randomly choosen among comments and tweets made between now and Friday 7th December 13:00 (France time). This contest is open to european residents only.

On August 11, 1998 Phish played at Star Lake Amphitheatre in Burgettstown, Pennsylvania. This was their second visit to Star Lake of seven to-date starting in 1997 and including 2003, 2009 and 2012 shows previously released at LivePhish.com.

The Star Lake 98 show was the 20th of summer to showcase the loose, experimental vibe of a tour that began in Europe and jumped to the United States enroute to the summer’s ending Lemonwheel festival. The introduction of a never-before-played cover each night earned the tour the nickname “summer of covers” from fans and Star Lake’s contribution was a Trench Town Rock opener. Star Lake also saw the return of Time Loves A Hero which was played for the first time in a decade and segued out of a sultry Wolfman’s Brother. Julius, an extended Fee outro (during which hip Pittsburghians clapped along on the 2 and 4) and deep renditions of Maze and Reba set the stage for set II. The second set featured a super-swinging, ethereal Runaway Jim that foreshadowed 2011’s Storage Jam and an unusual pairing of Meat > Limb By Limb. Local flavor of the Commonwealth was provided by Bittersweet Motel (the title of the Phish documentary recorded during Europe ’98 dates) and Wilson, King of Prussia.

Star Lake 98 is the only full show available as video from summer 1998. The 2-DVD set was created from archival VHS videotapes of the 3-camera lawn screen feed. The audio was mixed from multi-track masters in stereo PCM and 5.1 surround. It will be released on DVD and digital audio download December 11 on JEMP Records.

Couch tour is great

by Yome NetSan 7. July 2012

Being a Phish fan in Europe isn't a good thing every day.

But with mkdevo's HD videos, official Vimeo channel, the livephish Android App, webcasts, a cool poster from Ben Whitsell and my 3 years old son, it's becoming quite amazing !

Internet is marvelous, or how technology allows me to live Phish

by Yome NetSan 11. June 2012

15 years ago, I discovered Phish and the Internet.

I've learnt how to download old shows, to find unfindable discs, to read setlists the day after the concert. Since 2003, livephish.com sells each show played by the band and since 2009, you have to wait only an hour after the last note ! Some shows were streamed live on Sirius Radio.

Last year, Phish started to do webcast of some concerts so one can listen and watch the show on Internet. What american people call Couch Tour is now really a whole tour without leaving your couch. Now you don't have to wait the day after the show to download and listen to it (what already was a great step forward), you can simply live it live, almost like you were there... and even better ! Yes, no more rain, not wait in line for the bathroom, no 7$ beer...

On this side of the Atlantic, you still have to wake up in the middle of the night. I did it for New Year's Eve and it was a strange eperience to celebrate the new year at 6 in the morning with headphones on, while chatting with other european fans on facebook.

Fall tour and freebies

by Yome NetSan 8. October 2010

Tonight, Phish will start their second fall tour since their come back last year in Austin City Limits Festival. A webcast is provided by LiveMusicBlog here and a new song, Burn that Bridge, from the soundcheck has already leaked and is listenable here. Did I tell you that I love Internet ?

As for the tour, I'm glade to get my daily dose of Phish again starting tomorrow. I don't know about you, but it feels like summer tour was just yesterday !

Speaking about summer tour, Live Bait Volume 2 has just been released. It's a second batch of free tracks from the second legg of summer 2010 that can be download from livephish.com. I can tell you that the Wilson > Light > 20 Years Later section is worth the download alone. The segue from Down With Disease to What's The Use ? (one of my favorite guitar riff of all time) is also pure bliss.

A great way to wait for tonight show for my Dry Goods Pre-order (Moss + Coral Sky + other goods)

Enjoy !

Got a Cliff' Ball and a cool east' egg !

by Yome NetSan 16. September 2009

I was watching the Clifford Ball, day 2 set 2, Run Like An Antelope. A girl was coming on stage to dance on a rope when my wife came back from work. I hit the X button of my PS3 controller (I watch my DVD with my PS3 for its better HD upscaling) to pause... but instead of freezing the frame, it switched to a footage of Trey and Mike on a couch, in front of a TV, watching this very girl coming on stage to dance on a rope !!

Speaking of a freaky moment !

Then I realized it was an easter egg hidden in the dvd that you can view when you press Enter on your remote. I did a search on the internet about it and found nothing but a vaguely reference on the week4paug forum where someone states that there is another bonus footage in The Curtain on this same dvd.
But as it's rather annoying to watch the whole DVD while pressing Enter all the time, I went to search for the bonus videos with my computer.

I came upon (a lamp post) a full bunch of new footage in the structure of the DVD (17 videos to be precise). I search the 7 DVDs of the box set but there ware hidden videos only in this #5.
In all the videos, the band is in front of Clifford Ball footage and make comments, jokes or laugh at themselves. It's like a multi-angle feature or a video version of the audio commentary you find on many movie DVD. The footage comes from the same "session" of some videos found in the bonus DVD of the set (#7). I don't know when it was filmed but it's rather old as Marley is still here. They are with another guy whom I can't identify. He looks like a young Dave Matthews but it may be Kevin Shapiro.
The songs featured are The Curtain, Fluffhead, Runaway Jim, Run Like a Antelope and Slave to the Traffic Lights. Some comments are really epic if you ask me, like "That laser guy should be f**ing beaten" or, speaking of Mike's t-shirt, "You look like you're radioactive".

So I ripped them and decided to show them here as it's far more easy than keeping hitting Enter on the remote... Ok, it's rather poor quality when you compare to the new Big Cypress footages showed in the The8tre yesterday but anyway...

Enjoy !
