On August 11, 1998 Phish played at Star Lake Amphitheatre in Burgettstown, Pennsylvania. This was their second visit to Star Lake of seven to-date starting in 1997 and including 2003, 2009 and 2012 shows previously released at LivePhish.com.

The Star Lake 98 show was the 20th of summer to showcase the loose, experimental vibe of a tour that began in Europe and jumped to the United States enroute to the summer’s ending Lemonwheel festival. The introduction of a never-before-played cover each night earned the tour the nickname “summer of covers” from fans and Star Lake’s contribution was a Trench Town Rock opener. Star Lake also saw the return of Time Loves A Hero which was played for the first time in a decade and segued out of a sultry Wolfman’s Brother. Julius, an extended Fee outro (during which hip Pittsburghians clapped along on the 2 and 4) and deep renditions of Maze and Reba set the stage for set II. The second set featured a super-swinging, ethereal Runaway Jim that foreshadowed 2011’s Storage Jam and an unusual pairing of Meat > Limb By Limb. Local flavor of the Commonwealth was provided by Bittersweet Motel (the title of the Phish documentary recorded during Europe ’98 dates) and Wilson, King of Prussia.

Star Lake 98 is the only full show available as video from summer 1998. The 2-DVD set was created from archival VHS videotapes of the 3-camera lawn screen feed. The audio was mixed from multi-track masters in stereo PCM and 5.1 surround. It will be released on DVD and digital audio download December 11 on JEMP Records.

This disc is turned and framed, it's seen much better days

by Yome NetSan 29. October 2012 13:00

I think I have a rather big Phish collection but I don't often show the items I buy. So here are some of the last Phish related vinyls and discs I recently received.

The last Marco Benevento record is as good as the previous ones is not better. Moreover Mike Gordon plays bass and mandolin on Escape Horse, a tune already released last year as a limited 7" disc.

Like most of us, I discovered Jennifer Hartswick with TAB, but the girl really need more recognition for his solo work. All of her 3 albums are absolutely great, very jazzy and funky, and her contribution to Everyone Orchestra's first studio album makes it feel like one of her own.

Have you noticed ?

  • After Trey Anastasio's Bar 17 and Phish's Party Time, the next Trey studio album Traveler (announced for the 16th october 2012) will be the third studio album to feature the song Let Me Lie. Each version is different and you can listen to the last one here : http://diffuser.fm/trey-anastasio-let-me-lie/

  • The cover art for Trey's 7" vinyl Scabbard and next LP Traveler can be repeated indefinetly like a wallpaper ! The right border continues on the left side and it's the same for top and bottom. I can't wait to see the bonus 7" !

  • It's the first time that a cover (Clint Eastwood) appears on a Phish or a solo studio album, if you don't count Nothing and Heavy Things that was played by Tom Marshall's Amfibian and Let Me Lie (I wouldn't call them "covers"). Mike Gordon's collaborations with Leo Kottke and Steamroller Wheelies did feature covers but they're not technically "solo records".

  • The album's title track isn't featured in the vinyl version of Traveler while it's in the CD. The full length music shouldn't fit on one disc and that's why there's a bonus 7" disc with this song and Greyhound Rising.

Traveler, Trey's newest studio album, was co-produced with Peter Katis (The National, Interpol, Jónsi) at Tarquin Studios in Bridgeport, CT. Musicians include Trey Anastasio Band, Mates of State's Kori Gardner, The National's Bryan Devendorf and Matt Berninger, and Icelandic percussionist Samuli Kosminen.
Pressed on gold colored 180 gram vinyl, the album comes with a Traveler bonus 7" as well as a download card for an MP3 version of the album.
All pre-orders containing the new album will receive one Limited Edition Traveler Lithograph. The print measures 8"x5" and is signed by Trey. All orders will be shipped to protect the LE print.

Track List:

Side A:
Corona
Let Me Lie
Frost
Land of Nod
Pigtail

Side B:
Scabbard
Clint Eastwood
Architect
Valentine

Bonus 7"

Side A:
Traveler

Consequences

by Yome NetSan 10. May 2011 12:50

When I like something, I just can't get enough of it. It means I seek infos, I buy, I listen to everything I can. Very often, I discover something which leads me to discover something else which leads me to discover something else, and so on... These combos are rather frequent and may have a lot of branchs. The real problem is that I like a lot of different things (music, games, movies, comic books...) and it's often hard to make a choice.

During the past few months, there were several of these phases and I decided to present them as a Phish setlist with two sets (the first one is rather straight, the second one with lots of improv), segues, sandwiches, guests, covers and old tunes.

Don't forget to click on each link as they're all different. Most of them will lead you to the object's description page my other blog Gamusik, where you can browse my collections. Although this website is in french, the collection part should be easy to navigate for english speaking people...

Little japanese contest

by Yome NetSan 4. April 2011 19:57

This picture of 13 japanese discs was taken this evening on one of my shelves.

The first of you who give me the complete and accurate list of these discs will win one one them (the choice has alreday been made, it'll be the 4th starting on the right).

Be careful, I was the artist/band et the complete title for every disc (there are 2 obvious traps). Honestly, I don't think it's really complicated...

Damned !

by Yome NetSan 24. November 2010 17:05

I hate special offers... when it comes in a time when I can't buy anything.

LivePhish.com is currently offering 25% off all 2010 CDs until tuesday. This means that every show is available for 17.25$ instead of 23$ (except for Halloween which is 22.50 instead of 30$).
So all 29 summer tour shows can be bought for 500.25$ only and the fall tour is 264$. Even the "buy all in once" packages are more expensive as they're respectively 600.30$ and 315.25$ (you only save 10%).

Pff... 44 Phish shows in CDs for 570€ is a damned good deal ! That's 12,95€ a show, 4,31€ a CD (as most shows are on 3 CDs)...

Damned, I realise that I write more about money (spending or saving) than music on a Phish blog...

Another Idea

by Yome NetSan 18. November 2010 23:30

Today, I received another Promo CD and this one comes with a special version of the song from Moss :
Mike Gordon's Idea (Another Idea Version)

So as this version isn't really widely spread (except from Relix) and is a perfect add-on to Moss The Remixes, I thought I'd share.

By the way, there's a complete recording of the Mossery on bt.etree.org.

End of a 7 years story...

by Yome NetSan 11. November 2010 23:59

The story I'm talking about is the one I was in with Dry Goods, Phish's online store.

My first order was made 7 years ago, on Halloween 2003, for the Las Vegas 2000 dvd. My last order was on september 22th 2010.

I received the package yesterday and I let you see how well it was made.

For a 148$ order, even if I used a 1$ International shipping coupon (the code is GUILL3433, feel free to use it, it works once by account but you can create several of them), it's very poorly protected, right ?

So here are my last 2 messages to my contact at Music Today.

Hi,

Any news for me ?
Which items have been shipped and which haven't ?

Thanks

Hi,

I finally got my answer yesterday with the parcel I received.

So the only missing item is the signed drawing, simply noted as "canceled" in the invoice. Glade I pre-ordered...
I pre-ordered on september 22th Moss CD and Coral Sky DVD which were to be released on october 19th. My order whould have been shipped by that date but it was actually shipped on october 18th, after I wrote 2 emails to the customer service and you. So what I wonder is this : If my order have been packed to be shipped on the announced date, would I have got the pre-order bonus ?

But when my order finally arrived, I was surprised to see how my items was packed in the box. When I write "packed", I should write "throwed in". They were put in the box without order and with almost no protection. As the parcel was way too large for what it contained, the items were moving all over the place inside it. Moreover, to Moss vinyl was in the middle, lying half in the rolled poster, half on the bottom of the box... with 2 heavy guitar tab books ON IT where they could have been put flat on the bottom ! Have a look at the attached file, I've just remove 1 paper "protection" which can be seen in the bottom of the picture.

Thanksfully, nothing was heavily damaged. The vinyl and a book have a fold corner and the plastic of the Coral Sky dvd a small crack but nothing unusual for a Dry Goods order... I feel lucky with that when I see how the things were put in the package...

To make things clear : I've never received a package made with less care, ever. And i've been heavily ordering things on Internet for several years, from several websites and from several country. Even with the worst eBay seller i've deal with, my items were better packed.
And I won't mention again delays and shipping fees.

Meanwhile, I received the refund for the Moss CD. I thank you for that.

Usually, I'm not the type of guy who complains for nothing. But my emails to Dry Goods and you since last year were the only one I sent for a problem with an Internet order for 3 years. And that's 2 Dry Goods orders, 2 problems.

But in the end of the day, as I told you last week, my decision is settled. I won't ever made an order from Dry Goods while Music Today is in charge.
I'll order the new DVD from Amazon and get the bonus CD from eBay. I will be quicker, cheaper and I'm more likely to get the pre-order bonus.

Thanks for reading.

Pix'n Love Publishing : The Archaeologists of Video Games History

by Yome NetSan 26. July 2010 15:30

I know it's nothing about Phish or music at all but as I've already spoke about them several times, I thought I could add some more as french editor Pix'n Love goes international and open Pix'n Love Publishing !

Pix'n Love Publishing was founded in 2007 by three young Frenchmen, each very passionate about the history of video games. Their goal is to offer gamers, as well as anybody curious about the subject, a selection of reliable books about their passion: video gaming and its history. During their three years on the market, they've published, re-released, translated and written over 25 books in French. Some even became real best sellers in France and French speaking territories.
Today, Pix'n Love Publishing goes international and is proud to bring you some of their most successful releases, fully translated into English.
Three books are already planned to be released. The first one, the History of Nintendo (1889-1980) will be available around the end of August.

I read their books since the beginning and they are awesome. Florent Gorges, main redactor and creator of the company, is maybe one of the person who knows the best Nintendo and starts to have a very good reputation around the world. His books about Nintendo history are sold in several stores in Tokyo, even if they're in french ! No other books in the world have been published about Nitnendo this this kind of researshs and details. There are actually the Helping Friendly Book of video games !
They also organize annual trip to Japan and it's with them that I went there in april 2009. A defining moment for me.

The 3 first books published in english will be :

  • The History of Nintendo Vol.1 : 1889-1980 From Playing-Cards to Game & Watch (you can pre-order now, released end of August)
  • The History of Nintendo Vol.2 : The Game & Watch games, an incredible invention
  • The Great Personalities in the Gaming Industry Vol.1 : Takahashi Meijin

So you can guess that if you're into video games like me, or just curious, I advice you to get thoses books.
Proove that we gamers can actually read !
